This Tuesday, August 15th, we celebrate one of the great feasts of the Church, the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, body and soul into heaven. In this great solemnity, we marvel at the amazing gift that God gave to us in assuming our Blessed Mother, Mary body and soul into heaven.
Vatican II joyfully teaches us about the assumption in Lumen Gentium, where it proclaims, “...The Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, so that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son, the Lord of lords and conqueror of sin and death."
We are all undeservedly elevated by this singular honor that the Lord bestowed upon humanity through Mary.
Mary’s assumption is a reminder to us that God wants us to one day live body and soul with Our Lord and all the angels and saints in heaven. It is also a reminder of the great intercessor and mediatrix that God has given us in Our Mother, Mary, the Queen of Heaven and Earth.
Because of the great importance of this Solemnity, the Church has made this one of the six holy days of obligation and asks all of us to rejoice in this gift from God by attending the celebration of the Most Holy Eucharist.
Here at St. Pius X, we will be having Mass for the Solemnity of the
Assumption on Monday evening, August 14th, at 5:30 p.m. and on Tuesday morning, August 15th at 9:00 a.m. Please come and join us as we pray in thanksgiving for this singular gift.
