The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God honors Mary's role as the mother of Jesus Christ, and emphasizes the importance of his birth. It also recognizes Mary as the "Queen of Peace". 

As we enter the new year, let us ask Mary, Mother of God, to bless us through the gift of Jesus so that He can guide us through the difficult paths of the future and let us prayerfully celebrate this day through prayer and reflection.

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
