On this third Sunday of Advent, in our Gospel today, John the Baptist exhorts us to service to the poor saying, “Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise.”
Here at St. Pius X, we have always been known for our great support for ministry to those who are in need. However, this past year, we have started a group that takes love for our friends in need to an entirely different level. One of my greatest joys this past year has been to be part of the newly formed St. Vincent dePaul group here at St. Pius X.
Many charities that are very good help to meet the needs of the poor by providing money and material assistance. St. Vincent dePaul does this too. But what St. Vincent dePaul does differently than many other charities, is that as Vincentians, we go out in twos to meet our friends in need in their homes. We see Christ in them. We sit down with them, listen to their problems, and offer our love and support face to face.
If you think God may be calling you to meet Jesus in the face of the poor through St. Vincent dePaul, or if you would just like to learn more about how you can help, please email me at [email protected] or call the office and tell them you would like someone from our group to reach out to you. Have a blessed Advent!
