With great joy, we share the exciting news that our family began the journey of permanent diaconate formation last January. I joined the parish in 2018 as the Pastoral Associate while Kara has been a dedicated member of St. Pius X throughout her life. We were married in 2020 at St. Pius X while navigating the challenges of the shutdown and derecho. Two years later, our family grew with the arrival of our son, Elijah.
Kara serves as a school psychologist for the Grant Wood AEA, focusing on the needs of younger students and their families. I am now working for the Catholic Foundation in the Archdiocese of Dubuque, which aids various Catholic communities in planning for their financial future.
While my transition to a new job was necessary as our family expanded, I deeply miss the connection with all of you and cherish the gift of being part of your lives. Fr. Seda was pivotal in encouraging me to consider the diaconate nearly two years ago. Through months of discernment, we contemplated integrating discipleship, marriage, parenting, work, and the demanding formation process. Yet, every doubt was alleviated by the support of parishioners, unknowingly offering indirect encouragement that propelled us forward.
God worked through you, guiding us to heed His call. We appreciated having a year to discern quietly. Now, with your support and prayers, we hope to navigate the next three and a half years of formation. We look forward to the prospect of ministering alongside you in this newfound vocation, walking together to know, love, and serve Christ.
