Father’s Day is usually a day where perhaps Dad gets to sleep in a bit, go fishing, play some ball, golf, and probably grill out. One of the biggest things I have learned, especially having all the kids I have, is that on Father’s Day, we want to spend the time with the people that gave us the title. All the extra things done for Dads are great, but getting to see the smiles and happiness on our family’s faces brings us more fulfillment than you could ever imagine. Even if you can’t see your (biological/adopted/step) father this Father’s Day, I encourage you to write to another father you love and appreciate. It can be your husband or son, grandfather, godfather, an influential priest, or any man you consider a paternal influence in your life. You never know how your words may touch his heart! These are the men who give their all to be there for their families. As Pope Francis stated, “A good father knows how to wait and knows how to forgive from the depths of his heart. Certainly, he also knows how to correct with firmness: He is not a weak father, submissive and sentimental. The father who knows how to correct without humiliating is the one who knows how to protect without sparing himself.” I hope you all have an amazing Father’s Day. Catch that big fish, grill the perfect burger, and enjoy the love and appreciation from those who are important to you. I will leave you with the words of G.K. Chesterton: “In Catholicism, the pint, the pipe, and the cross can all fit together.”
