Many families this month will say ‘goodbye’ to their college-age children. Whether attending college in town or going into the trades across the country, this is a time of transitioning to independence. Our Faith develops in a similar way. Most core beliefs are set at home long before reaching adulthood: familial trust in God, respect for His creation, and how to cooperate with His creation. Each of these is learned through parents, supplemented by friends, coaches, and the greater Catholic Church. Whether you are a new parent, a family friend, or a grandparent to over fifty, we have a responsibility to pray for one another, especially those who are away. Let us pray for our college-age students (and be sure to have them sign up for our college support ministry): God, Who’s Spirit of Wisdom teaches us Your ways, Look upon our young people and bless them with Your delight in discovery, Your perseverance in trial and humility in success. Send them friends and mentors who can share Your Wisdom. And inspire them to grow into the beloved individuals You know them to be. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen
