One of the best things about being Catholic is the wide variety of devotions available to us. Some people prefer the daily Rosary; others make time for Lectio Divina; still more enjoy the quiet of Eucharistic Adoration. However, there is one type of prayer that is universal to all clergy, religious, and available to the laity as well: The Liturgy of Hours (colloquially called Breviary). These are specific prayers, psalms, and readings for every three hours over the course of the year. Sounds overwhelming, doesn’t it? It doesn’t have to be! At St. Pius, we pray Evening Prayer every Tuesday at 5:30pm in the Chapel. Consisting of a reading and short psalmody, this is a simple way to pray the common prayer of the universal Church. In addition to the intercessions of the day, we pray for all those prayers written in our prayer intention book (did you know we had that?). So, whether you request prayer in our book or join on Tuesday, together the Church prays universally with and for one another.
