This weekend, 22 of our high schoolers are receiving the sacrament of Confirmation. Throughout the year they have been going through classes, completing service hours, and learning about their faith in different ways. But not only is Confirmation a great way for our youth to get involved in service and learn about their faith, it is also a call to go forth and live their faith in the world. Through Confirmation we receive the Holy Spirit, and thus are called to spread the Gospel to the world. In today’s society, it can be very intimidating to try to live your faith, especially in the eye of the public. Some may wonder, am I getting judged for believing and talking about my faith? Will I lose friends or loved ones based on my faith? Will I lose out on an opportunity to get involved in a certain activity or school event because I am prioritizing my faith? All of these things are valid concerns, but I think the better question is what will I gain if I do? Through living our faith in our life, through living as Christ calls us to live, we will gain so much more. We will gain beautiful relationships that draw us closer to Christ, a love and appreciation for the beauty of the world, a joy not found anywhere else, and a greater love for those around you. But the most important thing that one will gain is a life with Christ, and an eternity in Heaven. When we live our faith, we have so much to gain that what we might lose is nothing.
